Hello! I’m not sure if this is a common thing, but my fiancé and I are heading on our first cruise together soon on the Norwegian Bliss to Alaska! We were really excited about having a “no plan” vacation, but I’ve gotten some strange comments like, “you’re too young to go on a cruise” or “I thought you’d do something more adventurous.”
So, I was wondering — is it hard to find spots to hang out with other 30-somethings? What bars or lounges should we check out?
Also, do you have any tips for first-time cruise couples? Anything we should definitely take advantage of?
We’re super excited, but I’m feeling a little self-conscious now… even if it’s all 65+ retired folks, I’m sure we’ll still have an amazing time, but people are starting to make me feel like we chose the wrong vacation.
Someone would argue that you are too young to cruise if you were twenty years old. Most cruise lines won’t allow a passenger under 21 to sail alone if they are over 25.
However, a lot of individuals in their late 20s take cruises. Certain lines are designed primarily with retirees in mind. However, these are typically luxury lines with itineraries lasting more over 14 days.
Alaska cruises are fantastic. At trivia, you can meet new individuals. throughout travels. in the numerous bars. at the comedic performances. by the swimming area. within the hot springs.
Although I’m not big on socializing, my mom had a wonderful conversation in the spa with another woman, and they’re now discussing taking a trip later this year.
Your age group includes a lot of couples. Simply hang out, introduce yourself to people, and start a discussion. Or dangle a pineapple upside-down on the door of your cabin.
When I was 22, I took my first trip and never looked back. It’s fun to cruise at any age. On a cruise, “adventurous” is an option. There were canoe tours available when we visited Alaska, but I didn’t take one. You are going to have a blast. Simply go to the nightclub and look for people your age. Have fun!
It won’t be all 65+ on NCL. You’ll be on the younger side because it’s more of a mainstream line like RCCL and Carnival, but their market seems to be between 40 and 60 years old.
No children, is that correct? You’ll be alright if hanging around people 40 years old doesn’t bother you.
I believe the name of this ancient social network is The Book of Faces. Nevertheless, I have heard that many people on this network create sites for particular cruises well in advance so that they may get together, mingle, and make plans for excursions prior to the ship itself.
Since we began sailing when we were 27 and 32 years old, my wife and I have always had a great time and have met friends. There will be those folks throughout the ship. Also, there are the more strenuous activities like bicycling and trekking in Ketchikan.
I want to know if it’s difficult to find venues where other thirtysomethings hang out. Which hangouts or bars should we check out?
A daily newsletter detailing all the events and activities is provided to you on board the ship. You’ll meet more individuals your own age if you concentrate on events that appeal to people in your age range. (In other words, skip the 10 AM bridge tournament and instead head to the late-night live-DJ dance party.)
