Cruising with pretty bad social anxiety?

I’m a middle-aged guy with social anxiety, and I’ve never been on a cruise before. I’d like to give it a try, but I’m worried my anxiety might keep me in my room most of the time.

My main concern is dining. I can’t sit with strangers, so I’m wondering which cruise line would allow me to sit alone or take my food back to my room?

I’m not interested in pools, clubs, or anything with a dress code. I’d prefer to sit at a bar and watch a game by myself. Also, do I need to carry cash for tips?

I’ve seen adults-only cruises, but they seem geared toward singles looking to meet someone, which isn’t what I’m after.

You can avoid talking to numerous people in order to respond to a few inquiries. You can always dine at the buffets rather than at a table for meals. You will have the option of a solo seat, depending on the cruise line. I love nothing more about cruising than to meander from place to another. Actually, because I’m not under any need to settle down someplace, my social anxiety has decreased.

OR… simply get over your concerns and do it. Overcome one challenge at a time, and before you realize it, other opportunities will open up for you.

Despite the large number of individuals, everyone largely keeps to themselves. in order to be both alone and surrounded by people. I would locate a place to sit every day where I could read a book without being bothered. And I could simply return to my cabin and unwind there for a while if I desired total seclusion. I don’t do well in big crowds, so I felt right at home aboard the ship.

What plans do you have? Any trips ashore? Visiting the site? The thermal suites are amazing. The pools are more insane than this. Viator offers the ability to schedule private tours and excursions. Yes, you need tiny bills for onshore as well as gratuities.

There are a lot of folks who travel alone, and I suffer too. If you eat by yourself, no one seems to mind. I also don’t want to eat with anyone. In the buffet, it is quite simple. There are plenty of tables where you can sit and no one is observing you. Once you’ve found a place you enjoy, go there constantly. You grow accustomed to it. They also don’t mind if you take the meal to your room. You take any action you choose to ensure that you have a fun trip. I find it funny now. I can only go on cruises and never feel anxious. I step my foot on the ship and it disappears. I hope you discover the same.

Consider scheduling a theme cruise. There is a cruise out there for you, no matter what kind of activity or music you enjoy. Because you are a member of the group cruise’s Facebook page, you will, in a sense, already know some of the people on the ship.

You may request just one table! A man in his middle age who loves to sail always requests one. Almost every line, including the carnival, princess, and royal ones, is prepared for it.

I don’t people well either and I have found if I am not connected to the internet 24/7 like at home that my anxiety decrease dramatically.

Also the buffet is open all day, I’m not sure about all night but you can definitely eat comfortably there without mingling with people.

If you’re like me, you will get a kick out of people watching, I like sit in the multi layer piazza somewhere… grab a book and nice drink and watch the world happening in front of you… might be easier to sit near the piano lounge (martini bar) or even by a window.

Also if you sit on the promenade, you get a great view and also people watch.

I found that Princess is pretty relax on dress code, never been turned away even in shorts…

Take the leap, you’ll absolutely be hooked❤️‍🩹

Virgin Cruises does not have a primary dining area; instead, it has various restaurants. The cost of the cruise includes all of these. They would allow you to sit alone just like in a regular restaurant. Since there is only one chef per eight person table to prepare food for the group, Gunbae is the sole meal for which people are gathered. In addition, they have a sizable “galley,” which is essentially a vast food court with many of individual tables.

Even though I struggle with social anxiety, I love going on solitary cruises. In actuality, just 25% of cruisers travel alone! You wouldn’t believe how frequent that is!
