searching for a simple, affordable solution.
Three separate times I’ve been to London, there was a train worker strike that resulted in only partial or nonexistent service on several routes. It could be my bad luck, but it appears like they go on strike frequently.
The trains are not like Amtrak in the United States, where you may check your bags and have them safely packed by train employees. It is your responsibility to take it onto the train and locate a storage space. The congestion on some of the trains made my journey extremely challenging.
If you can make it work, I strongly advise transferring from the cruise line.
We used the train, which was inexpensive and simple.
Many of the major London stations have direct trains, and they’re reasonably priced.
@Camilla Can we bring our bags on the train without any issues?
@Dorea No one is going to care. Worst case scenario, you have to stand next to it and wont have a seat.
The cruise line’s shuttle bus is an easy option.
Economical: Ride the Southeastern Railway train to the Dover station. You can leave from Victoria station or St Pancras station. Here is where you may get tickets: https://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/
@Dacosta I’m grateful. Since we plan to spend some time in London, we will be arriving a few days early, so I’m not sure about the cruise line transportation. I mistook that for coming from the airport.
@Dorea If you go by train, make sure you select Dover Priory and not Dovercourt.
@Adele Very good to know. Thank you.
