Is a DCL cruise worthwhile if the kids aren't big Disney fans?

At that outrageous cost? No

As a parent of 3 girls who made the mistake of booking a Disney Cruise for 4 days, which was basically the same price as booking two 7 day cruises, ya, DO NOT DO A DISNEY CRUISE IF YOUR KIDS ARE NOT INTO DISNEY! It really isn’t worth the extra cost.

Price comparison - My 4 day Disney Wish Cruise with a family 5 (1 room) on the Bahamian Cruise, was about $5900 for an ocean view room (not including gratuities or tax). My 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise on a far superior ship, RC’s Symphony of the Seas, for a family of 5, port view ultra spacious room (can bed up to 6), it cost me $2600 before gratuities. These DID include the port fees/taxes, just not gratuities.

Look, I think Disney does what they do well. Their entertainment is great. The rotating MDR with the live entertainment during dinner is neat. The characters around the ship doing meet & greets. The Princess stuff. All great. Kids club, great. I was happy with my experience. But it REALLY struggles with value for what you get.

It also is the most crowded I ever felt on a cruise ship probably due to the high density of kids.

Again, I just can’t justify this kind of cost for a 4 day cruise when I can do a 7 day cruise for half the price that is also fantastic. It is, imo, only worth it, if all of your kids are young enough to really appreciate it.

Here is my main argument against a Disney Cruise as well. It is cheaper to actually go to Disney World for say, 4 park days and nights, get an on-site Disney owned hotel at like an All Star resort, or maybe slightly higher, like a moderate French Quarter stay (I love this place), get the Meal dining plan (23/day for kids), which gives you lunch/dinner at most of their in-park restaurants, as well as a snack, and unlimited drinks at the resort, and you will still be $1500-$2000 cheaper than a Disney 4 day cruise, obtaining a far better overall “Disney” experience that all of the kids will enjoy of all ages.

So, a Disney cruise? I just don’t see the value, personally.
