RC drink package question… what are the options?

I’m going on a Royal Caribbean cruise next June from LA to Mexico with a group of five women. We’re splitting into three rooms. One of us doesn’t drink much—she only has a glass or two of alcohol, maybe once or twice a week. The rest of us are interested in getting the drink package. She’s sharing a room with someone who wants the drink package too. I know she can call Royal Caribbean to let them know she doesn’t drink much and they won’t force her to buy the alcohol drink package. They’ll make her buy a soda package instead. My question is, will they notice if she buys a glass of wine with dinner?

Here’s a copy of the original post to keep it as it was written. OP is going with a group of five women on a Royal Caribbean cruise from LA to Mexico next June. There are five of them, split into three rooms. One person doesn’t drink much, only having a glass or two of alcohol once or twice a week. The rest of the group is getting the drink package. The person who doesn’t drink much will be sharing a room with someone who wants the package. OP understands that she can tell Royal Caribbean she doesn’t drink much and they won’t make her buy the alcohol package, but she’ll have to get the soda package instead. OP’s question is whether they’ll notice if she buys a glass of wine with dinner.

I’ve done something similar. My brother got the deluxe package, and I went for the mid-tier one since I drink a lot of coffee. I was able to pay for individual drinks if I wanted something, no problem.

They do keep track of purchases. My wife doesn’t drink much, so I got the alcohol package and called to get her the refreshment package. Royal Caribbean never mentioned what type of drinks she bought, though.

You can call and she’ll need to get the Refreshment package. This happens a lot. At least Royal offers this option. It can’t be a soda package; it has to be the Refreshment package.

Thanks a lot!

Also, each person can bring a bottle of wine on board. So, you get five bottles of wine for your group too.

Yes, that’s great to know!

I assume it won’t be a problem if she buys alcohol separately… have her look at all the options and see what works best.

There’s a rule that says everyone traveling together has to either get the package or not get the package at all. That’s why I’m asking, not because of the cost. But thanks for the input!

@Orion
Just to clarify, the rule is if one adult in a room gets the deluxe beverage package, all other adults in that same room must get it too. It’s not based on who you’re traveling with.

OP can call and get the Refreshment package, though. It’s still pricey ($29/day), but much cheaper than the full drinks package. This option is pretty common. What they don’t want is for the other people in the same room to go for the soda package or skip the package altogether.
