This is wild! I’ve got so many questions… let’s start with these:
- What made you want to rent the scooter?
- What brand and model was it?
- How fast did it go?
- Was it electric or gas?
- What color was it?
@Brice
Honestly, I didn’t even check the brand (not a big name like Yamaha or Honda), but it was a 150cc gas scooter and could hit 60-70 km/h on the highway. I rode it to the Damajagua Falls, and the thrill was real. Oh, and it was red!
Did you make it back alive?

It’s been nearly an hour and no response… I’m getting worried!

Sorry for the delay! I was back on the ship enjoying dinner. Yes, I made it and had a great time! I had some practice before on a scooter in St. Barts, so I felt ready for it, even though the driving style in the DR takes some getting used to.
@Cade
Glad to hear you’re okay!

The 80s were amazing! I started my career, met my wife, got married, and even won $50 in a karaoke contest. Good times.

Yes, but sometimes you just have to squint to see clearly.
Was the scooter AWD or FWD? Did the rental cover maintenance?

It was FWD and 150cc. Since I rented it just for the day, there wasn’t any need for maintenance or oil changes.
What other places would you recommend renting a scooter?

St. Barts is a great spot. It’s low-traffic, easy to navigate, and you can get really close to the planes landing at the airport, which is a cool experience.
How much did all this cost you?

We docked at Amber Cove, which is about five miles from Puerto Plata. I paid $20 for a ride into town, $25 for four hours on the scooter, $2 for gas, and $4 for a locker rental at the falls. The scooter rental company dropped me back off at the ship for free. Total was $51.
