What’s a good time and place to propose on a cruise ship? We’re doing a Mediterranean cruise with Royal Caribbean, but I’m unsure about the ring. Is it safe to bring it through customs when traveling abroad? Should I carry it off the ship on port days? Or maybe there’s a special spot onboard for this?
Here’s the original post so we can keep track of it as it was:

Not me personally, but my brother proposed on the Utopia of the Seas recently. No issues with the ring at customs! He actually did it on the balcony of our stateroom right at sunset—it was really beautiful.
My husband popped the question during the formal dinner night. Perfect timing!
My husband proposed to me on a cruise too! He did it on our balcony (we had a room with a big wrap-around balcony). He was a bit nervous about the ring going through security, but it went fine. Not sure about taking it off the boat, but I don’t see why it would be a problem. She’s going to wear it off the boat later anyway, right?
My soon-to-be nephew proposed to my niece on the Voyager. No issues bringing the ring on board! He wanted to do it somewhere private, so we picked a fancy staircase. Later at dinner, we told our waiter in the main dining room, and they brought a special dessert with a candle and had the photographer ready. It turned out awesome!
Just bring the ring in your carry-on; people carry jewelry all the time, so it’s nothing unusual. You could also ask the ship photographer to capture the proposal—they probably know all the best spots!
I read ‘proposed’ as ‘pooped’ for a second. I think I really need some sleep.
I once saw a proposal happen during a bingo game. They called him ‘king of bingo,’ and he asked her to be his queen. Pretty cute!
I’ve seen a few proposals on board over the years. If you both love cruising, it’s a great way to make it memorable!
Not a proposal story, but I knew a couple who decided to get divorced right after a cruise! The cruise line even found them a separate cabin to keep them apart for the rest of the trip. They didn’t mind paying for it, either. Maybe cruise lines should offer ‘divorce cruises’ with lawyers onboard—could be a new business idea!
