Are there any one-way cruises from SF to Hawaii?

I’m looking for a one-way cruise that goes from San Francisco to Hawaii, visiting some of the islands. I’m not interested in the round-trip ones that return to San Francisco. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I don’t think that’s allowed because of the Passenger Vessel Services Act.

For a trip like that to work, the cruise would need to stop in Canada or Mexico before going to Hawaii. As far as I know, cruises with that route don’t exist.

It’s more complicated than that. The trip would need a stop at what’s called a Distant Foreign Port, like Ecuador, Colombia, Russia, or Fanning Atoll. None of those are close, which makes it pretty impractical.

No, there aren’t any.

Thanks for the info, everyone!

There aren’t any cruises like that because U.S. laws don’t allow transporting passengers between two U.S. ports unless there’s a stop at a port outside North America. That means going somewhere far like Fanning Atoll, which adds about four extra days to the trip. It’s not something cruise lines typically offer.

The last time regular passenger services from the West Coast to Hawaii were available was back in 1970. After that, airplanes became much more popular for these routes. There were some one-time trips in the past when older ships like the Independence and Constitution needed maintenance, but nothing routine.
