Do you think cruising is more fun as an adult?

I went on lots of cruises with my family as a kid, and it was fun, but I definitely had a better time when I went for my 21st birthday (for, well… adult reasons). So I’d say cruising is more fun as an adult, especially over 21. How about you?

Cruising as a kid has one unbeatable perk… you don’t worry about the bill!

If I could go on ANY trip without thinking about costs or making plans… that would be awesome.

Yeah, but as an adult, you don’t have your parents telling you what to do all the time.

@Ashwin
True, but now I have my wife doing it instead.

I cruised with my family as a kid, later as an adult with my husband, and now we take our own kids. It’s all fun, just a different kind each time. That’s what I like about cruising—there’s something enjoyable for every age.

@Kaius
Same! Did a bunch of cruises as a kid, now doing them with my own spouse and kids.

Sometimes we hit up the kid-friendly stuff, other times I just chill with a coffee and a book by the water.

For kids, the freedom to roam around a cruise ship is something really new. My kid loves just getting to be independent for once and even handling their own food.

Totally get it. Cruising was my favorite as a kid for exactly this reason. I’d hang out with friends, and we’d be on our own for the week. We’d see our parents sometimes, like on port days, but mostly did our own thing.

Making friends is super easy for kids on cruises, but I’m not sure what it’s like as an adult. Anyone feel the same?

I was more social as a kid and had a blast. Now, as an introvert and a young adult, I still enjoy it but tend to go for 25-30 day cruises now. It’s a different vibe altogether.

Our grandkids, who are both under 8, had the time of their lives on our January Cozumel cruise. Getting to be at the beach while it’s winter at home? Unlimited ice cream and pizza? Absolute paradise for them.

I don’t remember cruising as a kid, but my husband did before we got married. We took one for our honeymoon, and I was instantly hooked. The last time we went, I was a lot younger, and now I have some mobility issues. I’m curious to see how it’ll be now.

I went on a cruise as a teenager, and honestly, I didn’t enjoy it much. No waves to jump in, didn’t like the teen clubs, felt too old to play with the little kids but wasn’t old enough for the adult activities.

But now, in my late 20s, even though I don’t drink, cruising is my favorite kind of trip.

@Gale
You remind me of my brother. My sister and I loved the kids’ clubs, and we’d make friends on day one and just visit the club off and on the whole time.

My brother, on the other hand, never went and ended up hating cruising. I think you have to embrace the clubs as a kid, or you’ll be bored.

@Wilder
Yeah, I get it now. We did try the teen club on the last day and thought, oh, maybe this isn’t so bad after all!

Should’ve just gone along with the activities throughout the trip when I was younger.

Can’t really compare since my first cruise was as an adult. My family probably wouldn’t have gone, even if they could afford it; they had other priorities. But my daughter went on her first cruise as a baby, and she still loves them now as an adult.

Kids today have so many things to keep them entertained, but back in my day, a trip anywhere was a huge treat.

Obvious reasons? Not that obvious to me.

For me, the drinking makes cruising a lot of fun as an adult. No stress about getting home, just stumble back to the room.

But I think going with a partner or friends is way better than being solo. Hooking up on a cruise doesn’t seem too likely.

My last 4 cruises were amazing, basically spent the whole time just relaxing with drinks, watching shows, hanging out in the casino, or just watching the ocean. Gotta say, drinking made it way better for me.

Without the alcohol? It’s still a good trip, just doesn’t have the same kick.
