How do bartenders on cruise ships get treated?

Is working as a bartender on a cruise ship a good and high quality job? How do other people treat cruise ship bartenders with respect?

Too big a question to respond to. The bars on cruise ships range from men serving hundreds of drinks to inebriated patrons to those crafting artisanal cocktails with smoke for ten affluent patrons each hour.

About which cruise line are you speaking?

You’ll put in a lot of overtime and stay up late working. The boss will get his money’s worth out of you, and guests will treat you nicely. (Had a job on a cruise ship)

@Salish I’ve never been on a cruise ship, but in two months I’ll be working as a bartender, so I’m curious about how they treat them. I’ll be working for one of these lines: Princess, NCL, or Celebrity Cruises

@Meech I might be mistaken, but I don’t think they offer two-month contracts. I believe I recall that it is six or eight months. Have fun

How they are treated: I have witnessed certain guests treat bartenders poorly. Since I drink a lot, I typically order the drink package with grats. Two cruises ago, after having a few drinks on the first day, I realized I wasn’t feeling well for the remainder of the trip. GF and I like the bar and the bartender on our recent trip (HAL Eurodam), so we gave her a $1–$2 gratuity each time. This was on top of the gratuities that came with the drink deal. She looked after us really well, giving us strong beverages and excellent service. At the conclusion of the voyage, we also left her a generous tip. From now on, it is what we will be doing.

My favorite members of the crew on a cruise are the bartenders! So far, I have only gone sailing with NCL. The bars can get extremely busy at times, and the bartenders never stop working. Personally, I’ve never witnessed a drunken and annoying passenger. If they have to wait too long, some people may become irritated, but in the end, everyone receives their drinks. Every time I get a drink, I always tip more money.

It won’t be difficult for you to work 12-hour days. Based on what the staff recently told us, we might get one day off per week. And for a period of six to nine months, you will do that. From the viewpoint of a guest, I’ve never witnessed anyone treat bartenders rudely. In my subjective opinion, aside from the activities staff, they appeared to be the happiest crew members on board.
