How do you get from the dock to NYC after a transatlantic cruise?

This might sound like a silly question, but when you arrive in New York, how do you get from the dock to the city? I can’t imagine how thousands of people with luggage all disembark at once and figure out transport. Can anyone share their experience?

Hi forum,

If you’re arriving at the Brooklyn cruise port, there are taxis waiting for passengers, or you can just order an Uber.

You could also take the ferry from Red Hook to Pier 11/Wall Street in Lower Manhattan. The ferry has lots of space for luggage, and Red Hook is only a few minutes’ walk from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

I usually book the ship’s transfer to the airport. It’s convenient and reasonably priced if there are just two people. You can add the transfer when you book the cruise. Just make sure to choose the transfer from the ship to the airport, not the other way around. If you change your mind later, it’s like an excursion, and you can cancel it for a refund up to a couple of days before the cruise ends.

We just disembarked at the NCL pier in NYC two weeks ago. You exit onto the streets where there are lots of drivers looking for customers. You can negotiate the price. The cruise lines also have buses to the airports.

NCL docks at the Manhattan cruise terminal. If the person who posted this is on a Cunard cruise (they do weekly transatlantic crossings), they’ll dock at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. Brooklyn is in an industrial area, so you might find taxis and drivers outside. Last time I took an Uber from this terminal, the driver got very lost trying to find the entrance!

@Mal
Same here. We disembarked from NCL mid-July and took an Uber to our hotel. No problems at all.
