If a stateroom holds two people at the same price, why would four people share it?

Of course, if you’re not a family with small children, then having four rooms makes sense.

What am I missing here? Isn’t it ultimately a price per person?

Since two cabins were far less expensive than one, we took a cruise in June and reserved them for four people. Our children are small, so we had to relocate a mattress to one of the rooms.

We had to do it that way, which was absurd.

We always shared rooms with our kids when they were young, but as they got older and bigger we switched to having two adjoining rooms. On Royal Caribbean, two rooms cost the same as trying to cram 4 people in one room. Depends on the cruise line or even the deals available at the moment.

The pricing will be higher if there is just one person in a stateroom because most taxes and port fees are determined by the combination of the cabin and the number of persons occupying it.
