If you have food in your room or balcony, what should you do with the plates afterwards? 🍽️

I want to get some food from the buffet and have a quiet meal on my balcony during a future voyage. After that, what should I do with the plates?

I frequently notice room service plates left in the halls the next morning when I stay at a hotel. Is that acceptable? Or should I just let the cabin steward remove the plates out of the room? Should I bring the soiled plates back to the buffet? I would be pleased to do so.

Find out what the attendant in your stateroom prefers. Some people have requested me to leave the used plates outside my door, while others have asked me to keep them within my room so they may be picked up when I clean the space.

@Alain This is the right response!

Certain cruise lines have designated an area in their apps for choosing Tray Pickup. You can also order a tray pickup by calling room service. people suggested setting dishes on the counter, but sharing a small cabin with people makes it difficult to do. We are now traveling in an inside cabin for four on a Princess trip. There is not much room, it’s the smallest room I have ever been in. Although I am jealous of your balcony room right now, I think it’s a great idea to eat outside on the balcony. It has a heavenly sound. I’m hoping your cruise will be fantastic!

Not at all! That is the room steward’s responsibility.

DO NOT leave them outside in the corridor, please. At times, they remain there till the following day. Nobody wants to walk down the hall looking at half-eaten meals and unclean plates. Simply leave them in your room, and when your room is cleaned, the steward will come get them.
It poses a risk to people’s safety when they walk up and down the hallways.

Yes, I have observed individuals leaving stuff on the ground outdoors. Leave your meal in your cabin; we don’t need to see those false parts that you didn’t even touch. That’s just dirty. It also presents a tripping risk.

Give the outer space a break. The tray and empty dishes from our room service order were left on the vanity, and the following day they were not picked up.

Additionally, there can be a bussing station close by, depending on where you are. Since there is generally a location for dirty dishes, we prefer to stay on the Lido deck or the deck above or below. We will just carry any dishes outside to the bussing station.

Plate overboard. Just kidding. Leave it in your room.

I had breakfast with the whales in the morning a week ago, instead of sitting at the buffet, and I did just that! The room steward cleared my plates, which I had left neatly in the room.

They will grab it if you place it outside your door but against your wall.

@Jemmy I would like that people not do that after witnessing my two-year-old step on a dish in the hallway. Simply place it wherever, like on the table or counter.

@Jordan That’s a valuable lesson on being aware of your surroundings when walking!

@Mboks It may seem obvious, but two-year-olds aren’t always the steadiest, particularly if the boat is rocking!

@Jordan perhaps in a hotel. However, I’ve been on a lot of cruise ships where it’s difficult to walk straight forward (and I’m not talking about the drinks).

It’s hard on some people to leave dangers in the hallway when the ship can rock at any moment. Children and those with mobility challenges will certainly appreciate not having to avoid trays.

There’s a reason you have a balcony, so send them the way of the car batteries.

Carnival wants the plates in the hall. Proper to at least cover with a napkin.

If you would rather not have them in your cabin, then you may place them in the corridor.
