Panama Canal Tour

We are considering taking a cruise through the Panama Canal. Does anyone know anything about the trip’s outcome? Where you were on the cruise, the ports of call, etc. We are considering the 11-day round-trip from Miami to Los Angeles or Miami to Miami.

We have a reservation on Royal Caribbean’s 16-day Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles Serenade of the Seas for April of next year. I don’t remember the name of the ship, but there is another one a few days away. And in September or October of 2025, they both take the opposite direction.

We operated from Tampa. Eight days, is that right? The Cayman Islands were amazing, Costa Rica was fantastic, and the canal is simply amazing.

Traversing the entire canal would have been incredible. It can be a little difficult to locate a spot to stand on deck, so if you just want to go sightseeing, I would suggest booking a balcony room.

This year, I completed the LA to FLL full transit via Princess’s new locks. I will not agree with those who cherished Cartagena. In general, I didn’t like how busy, dirty, and hot it was. We had a great time in Costa Rica (visited a natural preserve and sloth sanctuary). Our trip was particularly memorable because it coincided with the eclipse, allowing us to observe it from the ship in addition to exploring the canal. The princess was alright. Despite being in our late 40s, we still felt like the youngest passengers on board. On this particular cruise, it was evident that the older the clientele, the longer the voyage! I’d be pleased to respond to any inquiries!

Partial (in and out) transits may occasionally be suspended during a water shortage, sometimes at the last minute. You might want to consider it if you are thinking about taking a round-trip.

Get a balcony so you can appreciate passing thru the canal. I so regretted not doing that

Right before the globe closed due to COVID, we took a full transit on Celebrity Eclipse (?) in 2019 from Miami to San Diego.

We always choose Celebrity when we go on cruises. It’s fantastic to have a veranda cabin on the transit since it gives you a front row seat apart from other passengers.

Cartageña, Colon, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua (? ), Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas were among our stops. Since Acapulco had four ships in dock and the captain wanted to keep us out of the commotion, he made a last-minute decision to go to Mazatlan. I was so grateful for it!

Our family really enjoyed the canal, and we had a great day there.

Hopefully next year, my husband and I plan to take a half transit through Holland America.

@Mboks We also took this Celebrity cruise from Florida to San Diego in May 2017. I adored the old locks! Our terminal is conveniently located near the train station in San Diego, which is convenient for us as we live in the Orange County. took the train home; what a convenient mode of transportation! We frequently purchase souvenirs, so not having to worry about misplaced luggage when traveling is a benefit. the rationale behind our going east to west rather than west to east. This cruise is fantastic; I heartily suggest it.

How can you determine which locks—new or old—you will pass through? Is it stated in the itinerary description, or is it contingent upon the size of the ship?
