I’m looking to go on my first cruise but not sure whether a river cruise or an ocean cruise would be better for me. Any recommendations? Are there any cruises in the US only?

Outside of river cruises in the US and Hawaii cruises, there aren’t many domestic-only cruise options. I wouldn’t suggest starting with a river cruise or a Hawaii cruise. To give you better advice, I need to know your budget, what you want to do at the ports, and where you’re based.

Thanks! Also, my sister is going on her first cruise next month and I’m super nervous for her. But if she can do it, I can too!

That’s cool, but you still didn’t answer the questions, so I can’t give you solid advice yet.
@Zora
I’m genuinely curious why you wouldn’t recommend a river cruise as a first-time option. I’ve tried both and think either could work, but I agree with the person who posted. There isn’t much to go on here.
Yes, there are US-only cruises, especially in Alaska.

Which cruise line doesn’t go to Canada?

Holland America. Here’s the itinerary:
7-DAY ALASKA EXPLORER
Departs from Seattle. Stops include Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan.
As you can see, all the stops are in the US — Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan are in Alaska.
The Eurodam sails from May 17 to 24, 2025, for anyone interested.
