My parents are planning their first cruise, and Alaska is their top pick. They’ve been looking into American Cruise Line but have a few specific requests. They like high-end travel, enjoy breakfast delivered to their room, and prefer light or Mexican beers.
Here’s what they’re hoping for:
Delicious food with plenty of choices
Smaller ships (ideally under 300 passengers, max 600)
Room service for breakfast
Comfortable and cozy rooms
We’ve never been on a cruise before, so any advice or recommendations would be awesome. Thanks in advance!
Here’s the info from the original post: Looking for Alaska cruises on small ships with good food and room service. They’d like fewer than 600 passengers and light or Mexican beer options. It’s their first cruise, so they’re asking for suggestions.

For ships under 600 passengers, check out Windstar, Silversea, Regent, or Seabourn. UnCruise is another option but leans more toward adventure than luxury.
If slightly larger ships are okay, Princess and Holland America have smaller ones (closer to 2,000 passengers) and still provide good service. Princess even includes room service breakfasts with the base fare!
Silversea is a solid pick if cost isn’t an issue. Their ships are small, the staff-to-guest ratio is excellent, and the food and suites are top-notch. Not sure how specific they are with beer options, though.
Silversea would be great for them! I’m booked on one of their cruises out of Iceland next year—375 passengers and 325 crew. Amazing service, smaller size, and feels very exclusive.
Seabourn could be exactly what they need. Their Alaska program is excellent, and they offer Ventures by Seabourn, where you can kayak and explore with their crew. The food is top-tier, and you can even order meals from the main dining menu through room service. Alcohol and Wi-Fi are included too.
Silversea is probably your best bet. There’s a great video by Jeb Brooks on YouTube about his Alaska cruise with Silversea. It gives a good idea of what to expect.

Every time I hear Jeb Brooks, I think of Jeb BUSH. I can’t explain it, but it cracks me up!
We love Regent! We did their Explorer ship in Alaska last summer. It’s pricey but worth it if you want a high-end experience. We’ve also tried Seabourn, Crystal (since they relaunched), and Oceania, but Regent is still our favorite.
Haven’t tried Ritz Explora yet, but Regent’s ships (750 passengers) feel even smaller due to the space-per-person ratio.
We did the HAL Eurodam this June. It’s bigger than what they’re asking for, but it’s smaller than most mainstream ships (like Royal or Carnival). The food was really good, especially the specialty restaurants like Pinnacle Grill.
Most passengers were around 60 years old, and there weren’t many kids onboard. I personally preferred breakfast in the main dining room, but room service is available too!
