Food on Carnival Celebration... does anyone else feel this way?

We’re a family of two adults in our 30s and a toddler. Last year, we cruised on Anthem of the Seas, and now we’re on Carnival Celebration. Honestly, I don’t understand how people compare Carnival to Royal Caribbean (RC).

The service on RC was like being in a 5-star hotel; I was blown away by how attentive it was. On Carnival, it’s understaffed, the service is slow, and nowhere near RC’s level.

Everything, and I mean everything, was better on RC. Let’s start with food—Carnival’s Lido buffet is like a low-tier 3-star hotel: all carbs, cheap meats, no healthy options, no fresh salads, no veggies, and definitely no salmon or avocado. RC had so many options at their buffet that we didn’t even consider eating elsewhere for breakfast. Here on Carnival, I can’t stomach their buffet after just two days.

There’s no proper coffee shop near the Lido on Carnival! If you don’t want the burnt-tasting coffee from the buffet, you’re out of luck. RC had actual coffee stands serving quality brews.

The pools on Carnival are laughably small and scattered around the ship. The kids’ pool is inconveniently placed, only accessible by two elevators, while RC’s is way better and more centrally located. There’s no food near the kids’ pool on Carnival either, which is a joke. On RC, the kids’ pool was next to the adults’ area and close to hot tubs.

RC’s water slides and play areas were much better in every way.

RC’s shows? Amazing. Carnival’s? Just okay.

The rooms are pretty similar in quality, and surprisingly, the crowd on Carnival is good—I was worried about that. Elevators, though, are terrible on both lines.

Long story short: if Carnival’s food stays this bad, I’m never booking with them again.

RC felt like a 5-star hotel in service, while Carnival feels short-staffed and inattentive. EVERYTHING is better on RC…

You can read the rest above!

Carnival’s breakfast buffet is horrible. I always opt for the main dining room instead.

I stopped eating at cruise ship buffets altogether. The main dining room is so much better for meals—no screaming kids either.

Royal’s main dining room has gone downhill lately. The food feels like it’s straight out of a hospital cafeteria. Windjammer was slightly better, but overall, cruise food is pretty disappointing these days.

Which Royal ship are you referring to?

I was on Symphony recently.

Funny, I thought the food on Harmony was great when I went last year.

Honestly, I feel like food quality is the same across most cruise lines. I stick to specialty dining or concierge-level snacks, which feel more like real food.

Carnival’s buffet might be weak, but they do have a decent salad bar. And yes, their elevators are comically tiny. It’s like they’re trying to make a joke out of it.

Salad bar? On Celebration? Unless you count sad-looking cucumbers and tomatoes, I didn’t see one.

@Harlem
We were on Mardi Gras, and there was a salad bar. Maybe it’s better at lunch? Did you check out Blue Iguana? You can actually put together a solid, healthy meal there.

Carnival shines in their quick-service spots. The buffets always disappoint, but you can’t beat places like Guy’s Burgers or Shaq’s Chicken. RC, however, nails the shows.

Yeah, I’m figuring that out now.

We cruise both Carnival and RC regularly. Adults prefer RC; kids like Carnival. Windjammer beats Lido, but Carnival’s quick-serve options like Guy’s and Shaq’s are unbeatable. Shows? RC wins, hands down.

You’re upset the coffee bar isn’t on the Lido? And couldn’t find the salad bar? Really?

Do you drink coffee with breakfast? I do, and it’s a big deal. RC had multiple coffee shops. Carnival? Not so much.

@Harlem
I enjoyed walking to Celebration Central for my morning coffee and pastries. Sorry it wasn’t as convenient for you.

I basically lived off the pizza and Mexican food stand.

Maybe RC suits you better. I had terrible food on RC once, but Carnival often surprises me with its variety. A day at sea beats a day at work.
